BA-11: Contemporary hand-made purses of very soft deerskin, and decorated with vintage Mexican and Navajo Indian textiles. The purses have lovly fringe decorations and are extremely well-made. Each of the purses has two inner pockets, and openings at the top have a button clasp. Condition of both is excellent. Size: both purses are c. 13 1/2 inches high (not including the straps for hanging) by 10 3/4 inches wide. They are c. 35 inches high, including the straps. Price: the purse with the Saltillo sarape decoration (blue) is $585; the purse with the vintage Navajo textile decoration is $650.

The sarape is very finely woven of wool, with silk in the center medallion and decorative side-bars. The side-bars feature beautiful rosette designs. The fringe has been altered to fit a bed or table, with the macrome fringe now on the two sides versus the usual top and bottom, which have been expertly hemmed. This is an incredibly lovely piece of vintage Mexican weaving! Condition is very good. Size: 85 inches long by 75 inches wide, not including the fringe. Price: $1400.

The huipil is woven of a unique type of natural brown cotton called coyuchi, and this huipil comes from a village famous for its weaving, San Pedro Yaganiza. This is a great piece of Mexican vintage weaving, and a discerning collector's dream! Condition is very good. Size: 51 inches long by 35 inches wide. Price: $475.

AX-6: Mexican vintage textiles and Saltillo sarapes, a spectacular Saltillo sarape (serape) with wonderful colors and a whirling-log in the center medallion, Mexico, c. 1910-20's. This is tightly woven of very fine wool, with silk in the center medallion and decorative side-bars. The piece is rare and is of museum quality. Condition is very good and the fringe is intact. One side (probably the most displayed side) is slightly lighter in color. The other side is bright and the colors are spectacular. A few of the weft threads show some disintegration, caused by the mordent used in the dying process. This actually adds to the rarity and desirability of the piece. Size: 73 inches long, not including the fringe, by 36 inches wide. Price: $1200.

This Rio Grande textile is beautifully woven of very soft and fine wool, and the colors are vibrant and wonderful. As is typical of these early Hispanic textiles, the piece is comprised of two panels, sewn together in the center. Condition is very good, considering the age of the piece. Size: 80 inches long by 58 1/2 inches wide. Price: $1400.

This is a work of art, with fine lace and silk ribbons. Condition is very good. The huipil would look lovely worn with a broomstick skirt or long pants! The fabric is extremely beautiful, and the huipil is finished with lovely tassles of synthetic yarn. Condition is very good; the huipil shows use and some minor fading, which only make the piece softer and more beautiful! Size: 22 1/2 inches wide, side to side, when laid flat, by 25 inches long, not including the fringe on the bottom. Price: $275.
